From Mrs. Harrigan and Mr. Walley - "The Chateaugay Chapter of FFA recently held a pancake supper. Local maple producers brought syrup & other products to be sampled.  Mr. Walley demonstrated the 3/16 tubing & gravity flow set up he had been using in the classroom.  Earlier in the year, the school's maple sugar bush was transitioned from 5/16 to natural gravity 3/16.  Students used clinometers from science class to determine that the slope was 25 degrees. Using vacuum gauges inserted in the taps, they saw the effect of 29 inches of vacuum on sap production.  While it was an experimental year with new technology ideas. It was interesting and fun for all involved.  New tapping experimentation trials are being developed for next year.  Earlier in the year the FFA's maple team placed first in the state."
