It began with the sound of bagpipes - one of Mr. Miller's favorite instruments. It ended with smiles, cheers and lots of hugs. I think I even hugged one or two people. The Class of 2015 has left the building. The ceremony got off to a teary start. Holly Zeldenrust made a few opening remarks about her time at CCS. But she caught the eye of adviser and friend Mrs. Ashline and the tears started to flow. It was a nice, authentic moment. In fact, the whole ceremony was full of them. Ben Watson's speech did not look back fondly, but imagined a future full of possibilities grounded with the fact that with the good will come some bad. Life is how you handle all of it. Graduation speaker Joseph Johnston talked about the benefit of growing up in Chateaugay and being surrounded by friends, family and a supportive community. He also talked about making mistakes and how he learned to cope and adapt with life's obstacles. He also spoke of perseverance - something he learned watching his daughter Nora fight for her life. Most in the community know of her courageous battle.
I have to share that as the ceremony ended and people were leaving the auditorium I heard many comments about how wonderful and respectful it wall was. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a successful afternoon.
And how nice was it to return home to learn that the three week long ordeal in our area was over and that it was a CCS graduate who put an end to it all.
Good luck Class of 2015. (video will be posted soon.)
