Grades Pre K(3)-6

August 2, 2022 Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Chateaugay Central School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope this message finds you refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for a new year! Enclosed you will find important information on upcoming events to start this school year. Please review the information below and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the elementary office.

The Pre-Kindergarten Open House will be held on Monday, August 29th. Mrs. McComb, Mrs. Swanston and Ms. Cook are excited to welcome our newest students to our building. Our Pre-Kindergarten Open House is going to be different than in years past. Mrs. Parmeter will be sending home a letter to let you know the time that you and your child are able to come to CCS. We will be staggering the times that our families attend the Open House. While at the Open House you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and see the Pre-K classroom. We also ask that you bring your child’s school supplies at this time. We can’t wait to see our little Bulldogs!

Please find your child’s supply list within this packet of information. The CCS CAPES Team is excited to hold another “school shopping” day this year. Please come to the CCS Elementary Gym on Tuesday, August 23rd and enjoy a school shopping experience that is free of cost. Please find the schedule within this packet. We appreciate our CAPES Team taking such great care of our little Bulldogs!

We want to welcome our students back to CCS in a fun, exciting way! Our elementary Inspire Team is planning a Back to School Movie Night for Friday, September 2nd. Our CCS families are invited to an outdoor movie night to kick off the school year. Please come to CCS on Friday, September 2nd at 7:30 pm. Bring your chair or blanket to the field in the back of the school and enjoy a movie under the stars. Refreshments will be provided!

Tuesday, September 6th is the first day of school. It is important to establish a routine at the very beginning of school. We will have faculty or staff in the hallway to direct your child to their classrooms. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please call and schedule a time to speak with him/her.

Picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th. All students in PreK-6 will get their picture taken. We will be sending the LifeTouch information home within the first week of school so parents are able to order pictures, if interested.

Students are able to bring in snacks for snack time or a birthday celebration. However, the snacks must be individually wrapped, store bought snacks. You may also bring in store bought baked goods. The packaging must still have the seal on the container.

Please continue to visit the CCS Webpage and Facebook page for updates.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES:

Parents may bring children to school at 7:45 am. Our school day begins at 8:05 am. Students are not able to enter the school building until 7:45 am. All students will be dropped off at the old bus ramp doors. There is a sign posted that indicates the drop off location. Students are not to be dropped off at the elementary doors. We will have our staff outside welcoming your child and directing them to their classrooms. If your child is in Pre-K through second grade he/she will be given a badge that will clip to his/her backpack. The badge helps teachers and aides make sure that your child goes to the correct location after school. Please have your child keep the badge on his/her backpack.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

  • On Monday-Thursday students will be dismissed at 2:31 pm. On Friday students will be dismissed at 2:23 pm. We will continue to have double dismissal on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Enclosed, please find a Transportation and Emergency Contact Information Sheet that needs to be filled out. It is very important that we have the most updated address, phone, parent and emergency contact information. The form asks you to provide the arrival and dismissal information for your child. On the information sheet you will select how your child will be dismissed from school. Please remember that you must have a consistent dismissal plan.

  • Bus Riders - Please indicate if your child will be riding the bus to and from school. Children are not able to ride the bus until they turn four years old.

  • Parent Pick-Up – Our parent pick-up location and procedures will remain the same as last school year. Students being picked up at the end of the day will go to the old bus ramp. There is a sign posted that indicates the pick-up location. Parents will stay within their car and your child will be escorted to your car. It is so important that you are patient with all of our amazing employees.

  • Walkers- All students will exit the old bus ramp doors.

  • Bulldog Hour- We are very fortunate to have an amazing after-school program at CCS. Cornell Cooperative Extension runs our Bulldog Hour program. The Bulldog Hour program provides after-care to our school aged students. If you have any questions regarding Bulldog Hour please call Cornell Cooperative Extension at 483-7403. Our Pre-K students are able to attend the Little Bulldog Aftercare Program that is run by Chateaugay Central School. The Little Bulldog Program provides after-care to our preschool students.

  • Early Dismissal Procedure- Students need to bring a signed letter from their parent or guardian indicating that they will be leaving early on a particular day. Within the letter please include the time and reason for leaving as well as the parent or guardian’s contact information. Students should turn the letter into their teacher who will send it to the elementary office. Parents are to report in person to the Elementary Office in order to pick their child up. All students coming in late or leaving early must be signed in or out by their parent/guardian in the Elementary Office.

  • Please be sure the Transportation and Emergency Contact Information Sheet is filled out and returned to school by Monday, August 22nd. Thank you for your continued support of CCS. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call 497-6611.

Sincerely, Nicole Calnon

Message from Mrs. Calnon - August 26, 2021

On behalf of the staff at Chateaugay Central School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! Our CCS faculty and staff are thrilled to welcome our little Bulldogs back to our school building on Tuesday, September 7th.

I wanted to review some important safety information with you. Earlier this week, our CCS Reopening Committee and the Chateaugay Central School Board of Education met to review the COVID-19 safety guidelines provided by the New York State Department of Education. You are able to access the CCS COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for 2021-22 on our CCS Webpage and our social media page. The guidelines are also attached to this email. Our students and staff will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing throughout the school day. Guardians DO NOT need to fill out the Daily Student Health Screening Form each day. Chateaugay Central School District will continue to comply with the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health and Department of Education. It is important that we work together to keep our students and school community safe. Your child’s safety is our number one priority. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the safety guidelines, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

At this time Courtney is contacting families regarding your child’s arrival/dismissal information. If you haven’t already, please return the transportation and emergency contact information to the elementary office as soon as possible. Just a reminder that we will begin welcoming students into the building at 7:45 am. We ask that all of our students arrive at CCS by 8:05 am. Students will be dismissed at 2:31 on Monday-Thursday and 2:23 on Friday. We will have double dismissal on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. More information to follow.

Many of our families have chosen to drop off/pick up their child from school. If you are driving your child to school, I ask that you are very patient with our staff. We are anticipating a higher volume of cars driving through the car-rider line. Our number one goal is to ensure student safety. We ask that you help us to keep our students safe by staying in the car rider line, driving slowly and not using your cell phone.

In the past our families have been very generous and have often brought snacks to school for our students to enjoy. This year we are asking that all snacks are pre-packaged, store bought snacks. In an effort to help our amazing school, please be sure to fill out the free and reduced lunch form. We appreciate your help.

Lastly, On Monday, September 6th we would like to invite our students and families to join us for Popsicles at the Playground. Please come to the elementary playground at 5:30 pm and enjoy a delicious popsicle. Our students will have the opportunity to play on the playground and visit with their friends prior to the first day of school. Our goal is to ensure that students feel comfortable and confident as they begin the new school year.

Again, thank you for your continued support of Chateaugay Central School. We appreciate you!

Love, Mrs. Calnon
