Grades Pre K(3)-6

November 8, 2020 Update from Mrs. Calnon

I hope that you have had an enjoyable weekend with your families. I'm sure that many of you are feeling overwhelmed and anxious. I am feeling those same emotions. One thing that I know to be true is that we have an amazing faculty and staff at CCS, we have an amazing community, amazing parents and our CCS students are the absolute BEST! We will get through this with flying colors! It's who we are- when the going gets tough, the little Bulldogs get the job done! As we enter this period of remote instruction, please know that our faculty and staff is here to support you and your child. I have every confidence in your child and their ability to take on this very challenging work! My goal is to not overwhelm you with information but to make sure that you feel comfortable as we enter this new arena. A few important updates:

As you know, to protect the health and safety of our students and staff we will be moving to remote instruction for students starting Monday, November 9, 2020. We will be in remote instruction until Monday, November 23, 2020. Unfortunately, we were unable to send our Chromebooks and iPads home with our students last Friday. We understand that our students are in need of their devices in order to access their Google Classroom and participate in the remote learning activities. Our goal is to provide our families with all of the necessary tools so that we can successfully navigate this time of remote learning. On Monday, November 9th our elementary students should spend thirty minutes reading their independent reading book. If your child has a device at home, please have them log into one of the many instructional programs that our teachers have shared with you. On Monday, November 9th we will work to deploy our student Chromebooks/iPads to all of our elementary students. Elementary families are invited to come to CCS on Monday, November 9th from 1-3 pm to collect their child’s remote learning materials. Please come to the parent drop off/pick up location on Monday, November 9th between the hours of 1-3 pm to pick up your child’s materials. Please stay in your car and one of our staff members will assist you. We ask that you wear a mask when picking up your child’s materials. After picking up your child’s Chromebook and other materials, we ask that you take time to familiarize yourself with the Chromebook and review the expectations that have been laid out by your child’s teacher. It is very important that our students are ready to begin the remote learning schedule on Tuesday, November 10th. If you are unable to pick up your child’s device on Monday afternoon, please call Courtney in the Elementary office and she will assist you.

Our elementary students will begin to follow their remote learning schedule on Tuesday, November 10th. Last year from March through June, we entered a period of crisis learning. This school year, remote-learning will look different. The teaching staff at CCS has had some time to learn more about how to teach successfully in a remote learning environment. There will be NEW instruction during remote learning, and the work WILL be graded. Your child will be expected to complete daily tasks in order to receive attendance credit. If you do not have internet access, packets will be provided by the school. These must be completed and returned in order to receive a grade and attendance credit.

During a period of school closure, Chateaugay Central School is able to provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to any family with children ages 0-18 who reside within our district. The child does not need to be enrolled in school. Please complete the CCS Community Meals form if you have a child or children between the ages of 0-18 and wish to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost when school is not in session. You may access the form on the CCS website or Facebook page.

Please go to our CCS Website or the CCS Facebook page at 8:00 each morning to watch the morning announcements. We will continue to provide you daily updates through our morning announcements. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. We will resume our remote learning schedule on Thursday, November 12th.

Our teachers have found that the best way to communicate with parents is through email. If you need to reach your child’s teacher, please do so during their work hours, which are from 7:45am-3:05pm Monday through Thursday and 7:45am-2:05pm on Friday. If an email is sent after school hours, it may not be answered until the next school day. We are here to assist in any way that we can. Have a wonderful week! Please, be well.
