High School Graduation

This is a really fun story from Mr. Calnon:

Each day this week our class held a different Theme Day.  Today's theme was "Talent Show."  I was amazed at some of the cool things that some of the kids were able to do.  Some of the talents on display included, original writing of poems, feats of acrobatic movements, finger knitting, guitar playing and singing, and more!  Mr. Calnon even dusted off his old harmonica to join in the fun.

Building Trades

Check out this story from North Country Public Radio about the building trades programs at FEH BOCES. We have many students participating in this program every year and they are among the top students in the program. 

Kindergarten Graduation

After lots of hard work leading up to their state test, the 8th graders requested to make Oobleck (a non-Newtonian fluid) for one of their last middle school science classes!  

Their zest and excitement for science will be greatly missed next year!

Mrs. Beaudin's students worked hard to see who can build the largest stand-alone structure.

4th Grade Fun from Mrs. Blair-Wilcox - Food, Walking and Biology

The 4th grade students spent time presenting their biography projects to the 3rd, 5th, and 6th graders. Each student researched someone they were interested in, created a booklet, timeline, and bottle likeness of their person. They did a great job presenting all of their information to the other classes and I am so proud of them!

The 4th graders enjoyed some yummy food that Almanzo Wilder talks about in great detail in the book Farmer Boy. The kids got to try chicken pie, creamed carrots, fried apples 'n onions, roast pork, homemade bread, apple pie, and pumpkin pie. They even got their food in age order from oldest to youngest just like in the book.

Today the third graders visited the Babbie Rural Farm and Learning Museum.  They toured a school, outhouse, milk house, Granary, General Store, kitchen, the Middleroom that has many tools used for farming many years ago.  The children even rode in a stagecoach.

Chateaugay FFA

Thank you to all of the FFA members, teachers and counselors who help clean up the Memorial Garden yesterday. Your hard work is  so appreciated! It looks beautiful 🙂

The 1st graders went on a field trip to Thera-Pets. Inc. on Friday. It was a beautiful day and it was so much fun! They got to feed goats, interact with the animals on the farm such as goats, horses, miniature donkeys and lamas, see several different birds from ducks and chickens to pigeons and peacocks, play at two different parks, have a picnic lunch, play Simon Says AND go on a trail to walk donkeys!

Sixth Grade Field Trip

The sixth grade classes enjoyed a beautiful experience at 4-H Camp Overlook on Thursday.  They learned to work together to solve challenges on the low ropes course.  One main realization that sixth graders expressed on their own was that they finally found solutions when they actually listened to each other's ideas and worked together to find solutions.  It was a great experience for all of us.

Press Release Village of Chateaugay, NY – May 20, 2022

The Village of Chateaugay NY is pleased to announce that its 6th annual "Mayor For A Day" winners, chosen from their wonderful essays, were two local 8th grade Chateaugay Central School students, Luke Carlisto & Anna Dalton.

Students were asked the question “What would you do as mayor to make our village the best place to live?” Luke and Anna's essays were the two top choices by the Village Board. Luke’s essay focused on the creation of community nature trails, while Anna’s essay focused on the building of Little Free Libraries for the two parks in the village. Their suggestions are being considered by the Village Board with the intent to be implemented in future planning.

Luke and Anna were invited by Chateaugay Village Mayor Mathew Clarke to visit his office and join him as “Mayor for the Day” on Friday May 20th. The students were able to see firsthand what the job entails. Some of the job duties and topics discussed were; the Village budget, budgeting expectations for a fiscal year, monthly bills, daily operations as well as our DPW Water and Wastewater facilities.

The Chateaugay Village Board strongly encourages involvement of the entire community and especially focuses on our youth. Our vision is a village where all youth are active participants in shaping a vibrant community. The board firmly believes that young people who experience involvement at an early age will grow up with an enduring sense of responsibility. We believe that the youth should be challenged to do more and need to be included in all aspects of community life. The entire board would like to give a special thanks to the administration, teachers and staff at Chateaugay Central School who allow us to do this project every year in conjunction with their 8th grade Social Studies and English classes. With this in mind The Village Board plans to continue this as an annual event.

FFA Members attend the 97th NYS Annual Convention

Sixteen members of the Chateaugay Chapter of FFA attended the annual convention held in Syracuse, NY May 12-14. Members from across the state participated in Career Development and Leadership events. They also attended tours and leadership workshops. Students participated in service projects that included building portable food pantry boxes. New state officers were installed and we heard addresses from retiring officers. The keynote speaker was EJ Carrion, best-selling author, and entrepreneur with his own student success agency. EJ has made Forbes 30 under 30 list and has been invited to both the White House and Dept of Education. In their downtime, students were able to attend a loCash concert and Wonderworks at Destiny. Thank you to our Superintendent, Loretta Fowler, and the Board of Education for making this trip possible. 

After discussing solar energy, Mrs. McDonald's 3rd graders built solar ovens and used the power of the sun to make s'mores. It was super gooey and delicious!

Senior Night - Baseball and Softball

Sixth graders performed some Readers' Theater in preparation for our upcoming Poetry Slam. Students had fun finding places to insert emotion and hand gestures to add meaning to their scripts. Look for our Poetry Slam on May 20th starting at 1:00!

A group of CCS students competed at Paul Smith's in the Regional NYS Envirothon Competition. The activities tested students' knowledge and understanding of natural resource issues within NYS.  Nineteen teams from Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties were present. The events included Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soils and Land Use, Wildlife and Current Issues. The Bulldog #1 team won 1st place in Soils.

I just wanted to let you all know that the CCS Art department submitted 9 pieces of artwork into the 19th annual Robideau/Lamitie-King Juried Art Exhibit. This show features Middle and High School artwork grades 6-12 in Franklin County. Other schools that participate are Malone, Brushton, Salmon and St. Regis Falls. Out of the 9 pieces FIVE of them were recognized!!!! Here is a list of our CCS participants:

Attention to anyone who plans to or any parent of a 10th,11th, or 12th graders whose son or daughter plans to attend the Junior prom….. Prom Ticket Sale Deadline is Monday, May 9th.

We are excited to announce that The Junior Prom tickets, An Evening Under the Stars, are on sale. Prom will take place in the Blue Room at the Rainbow Room in Altona on May 21, 2022. Tickets are $35 a piece and include your choice of Baked Ham Dinner, Stuffed Chicken Breast or Vegetable Lasagna, as well as fun, music, dancing, and memories to last a lifetime. Please see Ms. Davey in the High School Office to purchase your tickets. You will receive a transportation form at the time of purchase, please fill it out and return it, ASAP. From Mrs. Phillips:  Today in CDOS we worked on using positive words to build people up. Here are some pictures from the CDOS class. Students could not see what their classmates wrote about them until after the picture was taken. 

Today all the second graders headed to Mrs. Harrigan's room--turned candy factory!  They all got to dip strawberries, marshmallows, and pretzels. The children loved choosing sprinkles and toppings.  Everyone did a beautiful job on their gifts for their moms and families! Mrs. Harrigan and Mrs. Thomas sure have some BERRY sweet kiddos!

A Special Lunchtime Treat at CCS

Thank you, Mrs. Gardiner, for these pictures from the special lunch held at CCS today.  The Ag Science students helped prepare and serve Taco Shepherd's Pie.  The students created and submitted this recipe to the New York State Agriculture in the Classroom Beef Contest.  Students and faculty were invited to the cafeteria today to enjoy this delicious meal. Most ingredients have been locally sourced.  Thank you Abbey Group for all your help.

The Dog House is now offering fresh smoothies for $1.50. Each day there will be a limited supply made. Come to the school store to see the  flavor of the day

Field Trip Memories

A group of students from Ms. Rieger's College Human Biology class and Science Olympiad team members went to Newcomb, New York, for a winter wonderland adventure. During their time in Newcomb they snowshoed up Goodknow Mountain and hiked the many trails along the interpretive center. They enjoyed each other's company while singing around the campfire, playing games and making bracelets in the cabins. They would like to thank Ms. Rieger, Mrs. Dwyer and the Board of Education for making the trip possible. They also created a video memory of their trip.

Franklin Academy is headed to the New York State Championship game after defeating Potsdam HS 3-1.  Chateaugay's Olivia Cook scored the first two goals of the game!!!

Game is Sunday 12pm at SUNY Canton!!

Congratulations and Good Luck!!

Bowling sectionals were today and I am again so proud of all of my Bulldog Bowlers!  Both the boys and girls are Section X Champions!!!!!!  The girls are also regular season champs going undefeated!  Ethen Green and Madison Sweets were the CCS Section X Sportsmanship award winners.  Ethen Green was the Section X most improved bowler increasing his average from last year to this year by 27.8 points.  Madison Sweet was also the Section X girls most improved bowler with an increase of 15.1 points.  

Stephen Dwyer and Kimberly Dunn are Section X Athletes of Distinction for maintaining a cumulative 90 average over the course of their high school career.  The girls team were awarded the NYSPHSAA team award for having 75% of the team with a 2nd quarter average of 90 or above.  NYSPHAA Scholar Athletes are Stephen Dwyer, Alex McDonald, Lucas Hoseler, Kimberly Dunn, Kaytlynn Reome, Leena Hoseler, Hailey Reome, and Makayla Sweetss.  The Section X MVP with a 176 average is Kimberly Dunn.  Alex Otis and Leena Hoseler are 1st Team All Northern and Stephen Dwyer is 2nd Team All Northern.  Finally, the bowlers who have qualified for the State Tournament in March are Kimberly Dunn, Leena Hoseler, Cloe Minckler, Alex Otis, and Stephen Dwyer.  John Alden was named the 1st alternate.  I am so proud of everyone and the way they battled today!!  I am especially proud of my seniors, Kimmie Sue, Madison, Stephen, Ethen, and Alex who I am going to miss terribly!!! 

Science Olympiad

From a very proud Ms. Rieger: This past weekend the Chateaugay Science Olympiad teams competed successfully at the Adirondack Regional Competition. The Division C team, which includes students in grades 10 - 12, finished in 3rd place overall and had a strong showing in many events. The Division B team, which includes students in grades 6 - 9, finished in 2nd place and will be heading to State Competition in Syracuse. Congratulations to all team members for your outstanding representation at this competition. I am so PROUD of you. A special thank you to Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Legacy, Mr. LaPlante, Mr. and Mrs. Breault, Mr. Trombley, Mr. Sandvig, Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. Liz Crawford and Mrs. Harrigan for your ongoing support and help in getting the students prepared. Copy of Scholastic Art Participants

I just wanted to share some exciting news!!  I submitted some art pieces from the Advanced Art class into the Scholastics Art and Writing Competition. This is the second time that work has been submitted from our school! It's pretty steep competition because our region goes all the way down to New York City. The awards are Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention. This year we had two students recognized:

Since Jaidyn was a Gold Key winner her painting will be automatically advanced to the national level of adjunction in New York City. The National Medalist will be announced Wednesday March 23, 2022. 

This is huge for our little school!! I have included a Google Slide of all of our entries for this year.  If you see these ladies please let them know how wonderful their work is, all of them have worked so incredibly hard!

Over the last 3 weeks the CDOS class made different types of ornaments from candy cane reindeer and cinnamon dough cutouts. A student even made a felted ugly sweater.

Mrs. Ashline's AgScience Class and Mrs. Gardiner's Culinary class have been cooking up a storm for the NYS Top Beef Contest sponsored by NYS Ag in the Classroom. Come try the Taco Shepherd's Pie that will be featured in our school cafeteria in January.

Wreathmaking by FFA Members


From Mrs. Harrigan: Mr. Bonesteel recently came to Chateaugay Central School to teach FFA members about the history of wreaths, tree identification, and wreath-making. Members learned a great deal and had a lot of fun in the process. Thank you to everyone who purchased wreaths, supporting our local chapter!

Area All-State

On Saturday, November, 20, 2021, this group of musicians from CCS participated in the annual Area All-State concert. The event brought the best musicians from the region together for an afternoon of exceptional music. Due to COVID restrictions the event was live streamed to parents only. Mrs. Trombley and Ms. Andre were very proud of these students. They had to put in extra hours rehearsing the music for the weekend on top the time they spend practicing for the upcoming winter concert.

Dog House is back!

After being closed for two and a half years due to Covid the school store officially reopened this week. Mrs. Spence’s business class which is composed of Austin Bickford, Vicki Titus, Sophia Nemier and Ali Johnston have been busy cleaning, ordering and organizing to get ready for the grand re-opening of the Dog House. The class would like to thank Mrs. Gardiner’s nutrition students for helping to organize, and the many student’s who agreed to volunteer during their study halls to help keep the store running. The business class invites everyone to come checkout the school store and see what the slushie of the day is.

Sound Bath

Last week, our students in grades kindergarten through six were able to experience sound healing with Cheley Frazier. This was the first of a series of wellness and mindfulness workshops that students will be taking part in this year 

Swim Team

Thanks to a merger with Franklin Academy, CCS has students who are on a swim team. Ainsley and Allisyn had a great season. They have to practice before school so their day starts pretty early. Congratulations and thank you Mrs. Crawford for sending in the pictures. 

Senior Volleyball

Congratulations to Ayana Adams, our lone senior on the Varsity Volleyball team. We wish you well in the playoffs. Thank you for your years of service to the team.

On October 14, 2021 the Pre-CTE class took a morning field trip to Floyd Stutzman's house. Floyd and his family showed the class how to use an apple press to make apple cider. The class used some of the apples they had picked the previous week from Jeff and Jess Johnston's house. The Stutzman's showed the class how they use all parts of the apple, and what wasn't pressed for cider became food for their pigs. Thank you to the Stutzman's for allowing the class to visit and for the yummy cider and cookies. The class hopes to return in the spring to learn about the maple syrup process.

On October 18, 2021, the Pre-CTE and AgScience classes, along with Cornell Cooperative Extension and community members, visited the Deer River Cranberry Farm in Brasher Falls. Students watched workers harvest, sort, wash and package cranberries. Students toured the bogs and purchased cranberries for cooking when they returned to school. Students learned a variety of products can be made from cranberries, including but not limited to juice, sauce, cookies, bread and muffins. They also learned the farm typically harvests over a million pounds of cranberries. However, this year it was less than half that due to an insect eating the blossoms. Agriculture is a risky business often reliant on weather.

Each group had to represent a personality characteristic or hobby of each of its members in their completed robots and present them to their classmates. They did an outstanding job coming up with a way to put each of themselves into one robot. When the robots were completed the students presented them and answered a series of questions. Some of the questions included: How well do you feel you worked together as a team?, What was the most difficult part?, Did you have to make any changes to your original plan?, What was your favorite part?  The students were able to speak to each of these points with well thought out responses. Although each group had some stressful moments during the "build," they all showed grit and had something to be proud of at the end. I think they had the best time naming their robot friends!  

Thank you, Mrs. Beaudin, for this story.  The first day of school was an exciting one at CCS for the 5th Graders! They participated in the First Annual 5th Grade Hula Hoop Day!  Students were tasked with building Hula Huts with 6 hula hoops! Once they were able to master that, they needed to get all of their group members to wriggle through their Hula Hut and get back to the start before the other teams!  The teamwork and perseverance they all showed was impressive!  Next, the girls battled the boys in an epic game of Hula Hoop, Rock, Paper, Scissors!  The girls ended with the win. 5th graders also tried the Helium Hoop teamwork challenge and predicted which member of their class would be the ultimate hooper!  Jillian Barney walked away with the title with an impressive 33 seconds.
