NCCC ENG 101-English Composition I- English 101 is an optional college-level course. This year-long course emphasizes the development of the writing process and key skills required in writing clear, concise, and effective essays using various rhetorical devices. Special attention will be given to a research paper requiring MLA documentation.
NCCC ENG 102-English Composition II- English 102 is an optional college-level course. This year-long course emphasizes reading and writing essays with particular attention given to the generation, development, and presentation of ideas. Studying the role of tone and style as well as developing critical thinking skills to assist with communicating complex ideas are key components of this course. (Prerequisite: ENG 101)
PSY 101 Psychology- This is a one-semester course designed to introduce students to the basic concepts, terminology, and theories of classical and modern psychology. Students will increase their understanding of human behavior, personal interaction, and mental processes. The course will involve experimental work and self-exploration in an informal setting. This is an elective course for seniors and provides ½ unit of credit offered during the spring semester each year.
Sociology 101-This is a one-semester course for students to earn 3 college credits in the social sciences through North Country Community College. This is an introduction to sociology course. Students will learn to understand the way the world works through an overview of social phenomena such as social behaviors, social institutions, social structures, and social forces in many different elements of life such as the education system, the workforce, family relations, and more.
CHEM 101- This course follows the North Country Community College CHE 101 curriculum. Students can be awarded 4 credit hours. Topics covered include the History of Chemistry, nomenclature, moles and stoichiometry, solutions, concentration expressions, chemical equilibrium, kinetics, and acid/base chemistry.
PHYS 101- This course follows the North Country Community College PHY 101 curriculum. Students can be awarded 4 credit hours. Topics covered include mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, electric circuits, and basic electronics. waves, acoustics, optics, and modern physics.
NCCC MAT 121 Elementary Statistics - 3 credits This course is an introductory course in statistics that enables students to comprehend and compute the various measures of statistics. Topics include the basic concepts of statistics, sampling, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, normal and binomial distributions, fundamentals of probability, and confidence intervals. A scientific calculator required for this course. (Prerequisite: Math Placement Examination or completion of MAT 100 or MAT 120 with C- or higher grade)
NCCC MAT 132 Precalculus - 4 credits This course is a continuation of the mathematical topics covered in MAT 129. Topics include mathematical modeling, functions, linear, quadratic, and polynomial applications, and graphing, exponential and logarithmic functions, analytic geometry, and trigonometry, in addition to an introduction to limits. (Prerequisite: Math Placement Examination or completion of MAT 129 with C- or higher grade)
NCCC Spanish 201 and 202- The course is a continuation of the study of phonology, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural information necessary for comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing intermediate-level Spanish found in Introduction to Spanish I and II. Listening comprehension and speaking will be stressed. Hispanic cultures will be explored through selected reading and writing. In this course, students should review the fundamentals of Spanish grammar and extend their grasp of this grammar. Students will also extend vocabulary acquisition, in terms of both everyday oral performance and basic reading knowledge. Students will further develop the four language skills in their natural order: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. An understanding of the Spanish and Hispanic cultures, history, and customs will be acquired.
NCCC French 201 and 202: Students should learn the fundamentals of French grammar with an expanding and highly practical vocabulary, in terms of both everyday oral performance and basic reading knowledge. Students will develop the four language skills in their natural order: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A more analytical understanding of the language and its cultures, history, and customs will also be acquired. Higher-level texts and authentic materials are used at this level. Students who elect to may earn 3 credits through North Country Community College for each grade 11 and 12.
